Niigaaniin
Youth Resource Worker
Mamaweswen, The North Shore Tribal Council invites
applications for the Niigaaniin Youth Resource Worker to work in the delivery
sites of Niigaaniin. The Niigaaniin
Youth Resource Worker will report directly to the Niigaaniin Regional Program
Manager of the North Shore Tribal Council.
The purpose of the Niigaaniin Youth Resource Worker is
to provide support for youth that are between the ages of 19 to 30 years
old. The Niigaaniin Youth Resource
Worker will be responsible for offering employment counseling, job placement,
apprenticeship, and entrepreneurship training to assist youth to realize their
full potential and get back on track.
Job Responsibilities
á
Identify youth that could benefit from program and
establish a trusting, non-judgmental, non-exploitative rapport with youth.
á Refer youth to appropriate services in the community, as individual needs require.
á Provide limited one-to-one support and advocacy for individual youth.
á Assessing the needs of young people, and planning and
delivering programmes related to employment, training, apprenticeship,
and entrepreneurship.
á Befriending and supporting individuals in various settings.
á Mentoring and counselling individuals to encourage social
inclusion.
á Plan,
support and/or deliver culturally appropriate programs, workshops and outings
(cultural, social, educational, and recreational).
á Supervise
and participate in program activities to ensure safety and provide positive
role modeling.
á Establish
and maintain a network of positive working relationships with other community
programs/resources to ensure effective referrals and enhance access to a solid
continuum of supports for youth.
á Advocate
for more services for youth and/or advocate for services to become more
culturally appropriate & responsive to the needs of First Nation youth.
á Keep
abreast of current social concerns & street trends and as required.
á Aattend
professional development activities in order to remain informed regarding
issues affecting Aboriginal youth, particularly those who are at-risk or
involved in street activities.
á Actively
assist in the ongoing development and review of employment/training
programming.
1. A
minimum education level of a Bachelor of Arts from a recognized University.
2. Knowledge of First Nation ceremonies
3. Valid Ontario DriverÕs License
4. Clean Criminal Reference Check (CPIC)
5. First Aid and CPR Certification
6. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment
7. Demonstrated sensitivity and knowledge to the First NationÕs culture, values and traditions
8. Excellent interviewing, assessment and case management skills
9. Oral and written communication skill with English as the primary reporting language
10. Excellent organizational and time management skills
11. Extensive knowledge and experience using Microsoft Office applications
12. Knowledge of the use and maintenance of office equipment such as a photocopier, fax machine, printer, scanner.
