Regional Traditional Health Program

The new, regional Traditional Health Program began in the 2007—2008 as a cost-share collaborative between the N.S.T.C. and the partner communities. Through this program we are able to coordinate regional traditional healing services up to a maximum of 24 days annually across the North Shore, regional cultural workshops and regional cultural activities for youth aged 13
– 18 years. All regional activities/services coordinated by the N.S.T.C. are based on input received in the following manner; feedback from community members/youth at information sessions, cultural workshops and youth events and from your community representative at the regional Sub-Committee or Planning Committee level.

The following events were held this past year for youth/community members:
Anishnaabemowin Workshop, Teachings on the sacred fire and sweatlodge, Teachings on medicine bundles & pipe, a Traditional Cook-off Event and a Contemporary/Traditional dance event for the youth. We also collaborated with Nog da win da min in the summer of 2008 to have additional youth participate in their Youth Cultural Camp.

Traditional healing services: 19 days 250 participants
Cultural Workshops/youth events: 12 days 169 participants
